Postmaster General John E Potter yesterday announced the USPS will expand its Move Update rules to include standard mail. The Move Update program is designed to reduce undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA) mail.

Currently first-class mailers can only receive automation or presort rates if they update their addresses at least every 180 days through the Address Change Service, NCOALink, endorsements, or other USPS-approved service. The USPS will "put out a Federal Register notice and move the requirement to three months rather than six months, and we are going to do it for advertising mail as well," Potter said.

The agency would give mailers 180 days to implement the new rules after they are finalized via the Federal Register. A notice date was not mentioned.
