New Addressing Standards for Flats Proposed
Return to News Items November 16, 2007The USPS has proposed new address standards for letters and flats mailed at presorted, carrier route and automation rates. For letters, it means new address type size and spacing requirements.
For flats, however, the proposal includes new barcode, address formatting and most importantly for you, placement standards. The delivery address must be placed near the top for Periodicals, Standard Mail, Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail and Library Mail pieces (see illustration).
Final rules are expected to be published in January, and mailers will have at least 12 months to update their mail piece design.
Don't wait until the last minute! Take a look at your flat mailpieces now and make the appropriate adjustments. If you're not sure whether your mail piece is compliant, just give us a call. We'll be happy to help.
