New Booklet Tabbing Requirements

Return to News Items October 15, 2009

New tabbing requirements for letter-size booklets (also called "slim jims" are now officially in effect.

A letter-size booklet is defined as any mailer that is bound with stitches (staples). and now require three 1.5-inch tabs. The good news - for now - is that if your mailer isn't stitched, it's considered a self mailer, which still falls under the old tabbing rules.

Additional good news is the USPS eased the requirements for what they call "wallet-style" booklets. If your booklet is 5-8 inches long, and no more than 4 inches in height, it will only require two tabs, as in the illustration:

Otherwise, here are the new requirements for booklets. If you do not see your booklet on this page, it will need to be mailed NON-automation, which is an expensive, bad thing. If in doubt, (how could you possibly be confused about any of this?) just give us a call!
