Direct Mail Ranks #1 for Alumni
Return to News Items May 7, 2010New research from Pitney Bowes Inc. finds that print direct mail is the key for colleges and universities trying to engage alumni and obtain donations.
The polling firm International Communications Research surveyed some 1,100 U.S. colleges graduates and post-graduates about their preferences for receiving information from the schools they attended. Here are the results:
- Alumni have a strong preference for direct mail (54%) as opposed to email (23%) when it comes to being contacted about gifts and donations.
- Alumni are less likely to discard or ignore direct mail when it involves messages about fundraising and donations from their alma mater.
- Print mail is the preferable way to receive correspondence, news, and other communications from their schools. 57% want mail versus 31% email, and only 3% via social networking sites.
Want more donations? The answer is clear: direct mail.
